A rumor went around in the deepest sections of the Touhou fandom that a beta build of Touhou 8 was made and cancelled before the modern story every happened. This older version was alleged to have a much darker tone in its story. While that might not be interesting, what has had people hunting for it is the fact that there was apparantely an extremely advanced logic script for the enemy AI that made bosses both unique for every player and also be able to have more advanced dialogue in and out of the fight. All of this was a rumor. Until today. I found that build. It's a pile of garbage code, but I found it. I'm actively decompiling it to share with the world. I'll keep you all updated as I find more.
